Sculling is one of the nicest ways to learn how to row, or to learn how to row better. No other boat is crankier, lighter and more challenging than a skiff, and no other boat is more merciless in showing its passenger his mistakes. But once the skiff slides smoothly and balanced through the water, the satisfaction is even greater. And those who are able to scull, will discover it is much easier to join long tours, to participate in racing, to coach, or to take an sculling exam !!
This week is meant for those who are member of a rowingclub and find no-one to really help them to improve their technics. The European Sculling camp offers participants the opportunity to learn how to scull, or to improve their level of sculling. In the program -which lasts 6 days - the individual needs of each participant will be given priority. In addition to instruction in the skiff, video and the ergometer will be used to learn how to scull better. Also attention will be payed to rigging and how to instruct others. All of this can be achieved, because of the individual approach. The goal of the program is, for each participant to develop a (new) technical base, as a help to continue in any direction of the rowingsport. And one of the most important ideas of the camp is that, in fact, each rower can be his own instructor.
To achieve those goals, a nice environment has been chosen. The scullingcenter of Ratzeburg (close to Hamburg, Germany) is situated at a beautiful lake surrounded by forest, fields and small villages. The center offers excellent facilities. The double- and singlerooms have each their own shower and toilet, have comfortable (long !)beds and color-TV. Healthy meals, a nice boathouse and a fleet which is kept in good shape provide optimal conditions for a nice week.
Besides a beautiful environment and fine facilities, the instructor is -of course - the most important pivot of the scull-week. Enough experience in coaching, makes it possible to cover the needs of people with less experience as well as advanced scullers.
The camp is open for a total of 12 rowers. The camp is international, so participants from all countries are welcome. The minimum age is 18 and participants can be beginning as well as advanced scullers. English will be the main spoken language. The camp is not open for people without any rowingexperience.
